IE Community

During your time studying with IE Business School, you will have the opportunity to build a network of contacts through the school. Your classmates will become contacts for the future each of them with their own experiences prior to beginning the Master program. Your professors, with their vast experience, will provide you with a further network of professional contacts many of whom will be IE alumni.

In addition, IE Business School runs a number of centers dedicated to research and development in key areas of international business that are intrinsically linked to the real needs and specific demands of the business world. You too can collaborate in a number of global initiatives and projects that IE leads or takes part in, covering a host of sectors and issues including Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability, and Strategy.

Moreover, the IE Communities platform is a network of virtual communities that promotes the development of your international network and share theoretical and practical knowledge of sectors, functional areas and geographic regions.

IE Alumni

The IE Alumni Association currently has some 35,000 alumni members that hold management positions in 100 countries, and serves as a platform for networking, training, information and professional services. More than 80 alumni representatives and over 60 clubs around the globe will help you maintain and build on your network and keep in contact with IE, wherever you are.

The IE Alumni Association works to maximize existing and, in many cases, establish initial contact between members, and provides its members with continuous training, keeping you up to date with the latest management skills.

The network of Alumni Association chapters, both in Spain and around the world, forges links between alumni and the range of business organizations that collaborate with IE Business School. These Alumni Clubs organize a variety of academic activities- courses, conferences, round tables, forums and open debates, as well as leisure activities such as trips, and sporting events, generating great opportunities for the all-important upkeep and development of your network of contacts.

The Alumni Association provides personalized careers guidance through the Careers Management Center.

Ideas Empresariales, a quarterly journal, features sector, market, and country specific reports, interviews with international business leaders, plus articles on the latest management trends and legal and tax issues.

Open Forums offer the chance for you to connect with graduates from around the world, promoting the exchange of information, providing unique cultural insight, as well as allowing you to build up your IE Network. Just some of the many different forums and thematic clubs created by the Association are The Entrepreneurial Management Club, the Family Business Forum, IE Women in Business (IEWB).

We offer you assistance and guidance in your professional development by promoting business start-ups through the Entrepreneurship Department and the International Center for Entrepreneurship and Venture Development. (ICEVED). We also offer legal and tax counsel through graduates of the Master in Legal Practice and the Master in Tax Law.

You may attend presential and online training activities designed to meet firms' demands for skills and capacities in new disciplines. We firmly believe in supporting and promoting our alumni, and we are constantly innovating in terms of the content and design of courses, seminars, practical cases, conferences, sector-specific programs and forums.

The Association also offers alumni specialized courses that have enjoyed great success in IE programs in recent years and equip participants with deep knowledge on current economy and business issues, as well as offer valuable networking opportunities.

The IE Business School Chair in Social Responsibility, provides a platform for research into business practices involving ethical, individual, social and corporate issues. The Chair, sponsored by the Alumni Association, upholds the awareness among IE graduates of the increasingly important role of ethics in generating collective wealth instilled during your studies at IE.

The association has agreements with over 250 firms in a wide variety of sectors whereby you will enjoy discounts on products and services, including courses at IE.

The Annual Alumni Conference reflects the spirit of the Alumni Association and plays a key role the development of your IE network as well as promoting lifelong training. Last year's conference brought together 1,500 alumni from around the world.

Master in Biotechnology Management

Program Features

  • Offers the students the skills, abilities, and network that are necessary in order to obtain a competitive advantage in the biotechnology industry.
  • Based on a network of collaborators, training activities and projects will be developed enabling participants to work and discuss issues directly with key managers and personnel.
  • A methodology that focuses on real business cases discussions and analysis of specialized issues.
  • Provides participants a strong foundation in the nucleus of core business disciplines, essential for the management of any business.
  • Focuses on all the key issues that constitute vital success and failure factors for companies linked to the biotech sector, with courses such as Competitive Strategy in Biotechnology, Market for Biotechnology, Interaction with external stakeholders and society, Operations and R & D, Legal Environment and Regulation and Entrepreneurship, among others.

Aimed at

The Master in Biotechnology Management is aimed at professionals who want to enhance their opportunities within the biotechnology industry or who are coming from other industries and seeking a career change into the biotechnology sector. It is also designed for participants who are unable or unwilling to leave their place of residence and work for extended periods of time.

Structure

  • Face to Face Periods
    Work on concepts and skills that require face-to-face contact with professors and fellow students. Running for two weeks each, the first and last periods take place in Madrid, with the second in Boston, USA.
  • Online Periods
    The virtual campus is the fundamental point of reference for the online activities that form a communication platform for group work and for the online sessions hosted by professors. Students participate in online forums with easy access to the comments, opinions and experiences of professors and fellow students. These online forums will be active 24 hours a day, allowing convenient time management and facilitating active participation.

The Online Experience

The online format allows students from anywhere in the world and with any working timetable or travelling requirements to attend the Master in Biotechnology Management. Based on the case method, it allows the participant to adopt a proactive attitude, thanks to a highly motivating methodology that ensures intensive communication, enthusiasm, interest, and commitment at every stage.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (or degree equivalent to 180 Eurocredits).
  • Professional experience in any field.
  • Sufficient proficiency in the English language.
  • Complete application with supporting documents:
    • Application form.
    • Photocopy of Passport or ID Card.
    • One passport-sized photo (with name on the back).
    • Curriculum vitae (one page).
    • 3 essays.
    • Photocopies of diplomas and certificates.
    • Certificate of current work.
    • Application fee.
  • Interview

In order to evaluate each candidature more thoroughly, the Admissions Committee may require the GMAT/GRE/ IE Admissions Test and/or the TOEFL examination.
